Yes. I wasn’t expecting it. My employer said he was trying to maximise my income while minimising his so he is happy to continue including me in the scheme. No sign of the oil industry picking up though.

I check the oil price regularly on this website. Interesting article on hydrogen.

Yep very interesting article, this is why the Japs like Honda are still investing heavily in Hydrogen and while that amount of Gigawatts of capacity is still smallish it is a sizable start regards what will be needed, transport alone in the UK requires at least the same amount of energy as we have available for the entire grid, although electric fuel cell vehicles will be far more efficient in energy conversion than carbon fuels.

Dr Aseem Malhotra continues to advise the government on public health. This article in the Guardian explains the latest....

“Downing Street has unveiled plans to implement a total ban on online junk food advertising – the toughest digital marketing restrictions in the world – in an attempt to tackle the growing obesity crisis.

While health campaigners have welcomed the proposed ban, which is now subject to a six-week consultation, it has stunned the advertising industry, which has called it indiscriminate and draconian.“

So we in the U.K. have reached the dizzy heights of being the country in Europe with the most Covid 19 deaths. And the nation still hasn’t worked out why.

“The UK has become the first country in Europe to pass 50,000 coronavirus deaths, according to the latest government figures.

The UK is the fifth country to pass 50,000 deaths, coming after the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico.“

Isnt it all down to the way they are counted...as in deaths from any reason within 28 days of being positive.

How many people do you think are being counted because they got a positive COVID result and then died in a car accident.

How many people do you think are being counted because they got a positive COVID result and then died of a heart attack.

How many people do you think are being counted because they got a positive COVID result and then died of a stroke.

How many people do you think are being counted because they got a positive COVID result and then died of a pre-existing cancer.

Car or other accident, negligible numbers.

Heart attack and stroke, well given how COVID kills you given that it acts as a coagulant I think it's pretty likely that COVID killed them.

Pre-existing cancer, some might be killed by Covid maybe some would have died in that timescale anyway.

We threw away over 5000 deaths because they didn't die quick enough, the Filipino lad in the north died a few months after being hospitalised and recovering, he clearly from complications of covid so I think it is pretty clear that covid killed him, a great many of those who died too slowly to be counted more than likely died as a result of their covid infection and the devastation it caused to their systems.

John is specifically pointing at, and saying that, it is because we are a metabolically unhealthy nation.

I'm not disagreeing with that but I am additionally saying we already passed that number months ago, indeed many more will have died without a COVID test and will also be missing from the official numbers.

I would agree that accident victims should not count as covid deaths just because of a positive test, but many people on ventilators die more than 28 days after first diagnosis and they should count, as should people who were so damaged by the virus that although they appear to recover they still succumb to the damage it caused to them.

I find it very telling that the UK ratio of covid deaths to population is almost the same as the USA. Lifestyles..diets..ethnicities..

Deaths per million can only really climb although births would offset it to a small extent.

It also has to be considered in the context of the penetration of the virus in the community i.e. it to some extent indicates the spread, the portion of the population who has been exposed to the infection.

Deaths per million is a crude measure a true Infection Fatality Rate would be a better measure but we are unlikely to ever know that accurately for a large group of populations in different countries.

It will be interesting to see the true total number of deaths in the UK for 2020..compared to the median for the previous 20 years. I wouldnt be surprised if its actually less.

This is up until September 5th, I would be surprised if deaths are less for the whole year although because of lockdown influenza is likely to be completely replaced by covid this season, lockdown suppresses all respiratory viruses and influenza is no exception.
